Sciatica

Radiating pain down the back of thigh and leg is termed Sciatica. It is only a symptom. The problem is precipitated by many lesions. Hence an accurate diagnosis is a must for giving appropriate treatment.

Causes of Sciatica

• Causes in gluteal region and thigh
• Causes inside the Pelvis and abdomen
• Causes in the spine

A. Causes of Sciatica in the gluteal region and thigh (Causes outside the Pelvis)

B. Causes of Sciatica arising in the pelvis and abdomen

1. Retroverted gravid uterus
2. Uterine fibroids
3. Rectal malignancy infiltrating sacral plexus
4. Aneurysm of Arota, Iliac artery
5. Lerische Syndrome
6. Retroperitoneal fibrosis
